Since the death of our computer several weeks ago and the the transition to a slightly different operating system on our new computer, I have done little posting. I no longer have (what I consider) a simple system to download and save pictures like I did before and so I just don't take the time to sit down and do it at all. There's got to be a better, smoother way to do it, but until I have it figured out, new posts might be rare. But finally I have forced myself to do this one.
This past Sunday, we were able to watch the fireworks from a spot that we've never been able to before. Jeff's firm gave him tickets for a fun event where we road the train to the middle of a bridge in the Susquehanna River and then we disembarked, ate from a lovely selection of food and watched the fireworks in all their glory.
The kids loved the train ride. It was a short ride, of course, but Amtrak is a fun coach to ride in. The kids watched out the window with great interest.
Once on the bridge, Joost and Grace had great fun running around and eating desserts until the night was dark enough for the fireworks to begin. The Harrisburg Music Festival was also taking place on Front Street all weekend long, so we were able to enjoy some of the musicians and bands playing while we ate and talked and wiped fudge icing from our children's hands and faces.
The evening was perfect for watching fireworks. It was cool enough for a light jacket or sweater. It turned out that Grace only watched with one eye (or less) the entire time. The boom of the fireworks were little more than she wanted; but, as always, she was very brave and didn't cry at all. All said, however, it was a fun night that the kids and Jeff and I won't soon forget.
