Double digits

Joost has turned ten, and we celebrated with a capture the flag party.  Lots of his schoolmates and cousins came. About 15 minutes after the party began, hard rain and winds decided to come, as well.  This did not daunt the kids or their competition to capture the hidden flags.  They all had a good time and went home dripping wet.

Family vacation 2013

This week, we went on our very first family vacation.  Every summer we enjoy visiting the beach with both sides of our family or the other.  It worked out this year that we could take a second week, and we decided to try just the six of us--not fully sure how it would play out.

It was wonderful.  We traveled down to the Outer Banks in SC and stayed in the town of Duck. Spending seven days of unscheduled time together was the best vacation we've taken.

(We had fun celebrating Joost's birthday while we were down in Duck, as well.  The gift of Minecraft and vacation all at once--who can beat that?)
