Fasnacht Day

Some of you might be attending Mardi Gras festivities today. Not in our house. We're eating donuts, instead. Fat Tuesday is endearingly known as Fasnacht Day here in Central Pennsylvania. Enter any grocery store, and you'll find stacks and stacks of fasnachts in the bakery.

A Fasnacht, for all of you who are wrinkling your head in confusion, is a lovely donut-like pastry that's made every year the day before Lent starts--it uses a lot of fat in it. Butter, fat and lard are all a part of it's yummy recipe. Even those who don't observe lent are more than happy to pull their weight and eat this dessert.

More snow

This is a February to remember. Today, we are getting another pile of snow on top of the snow from Saturday. Maybe as much as another 20 inches. Grace is only a bit taller than the snow in our backyard. Should we tie a rope from the house to the garage so we can make it safely there and back? (That's what Laura Ingalls and her family would do. ;)

Joost has been busy building snow forts this morning.

20 some inches of snow

We enjoyed a large amount of snow today--over 20 inches, I think. We all bundled up and went sledding in the street (sledding in a foot and a half of snow doesn't work very well.)

Kate could barely sit up in all her winter wear.

Snow, snow everywhere.

Even once Kate was in from the snow, she was still very curious about the white flakes falling from the sky.
